General Description and Applications
Camphor is a waxy, white solid with a pungent, aromatic
odor and slightly bitter, coolingtaste. It is a terpenoid.
It was formerly obtained from the wood of the camphor
laurel tree (cinnamomum camphora), but now it is synthesized
from pinene which is obtained by refining crude turpentine
oil. Camphor is flammable and volatile.
Camphor is used as a plasticizer for nitrocellulose,
as a moth repellent, as a flavoring
for sweets.
Camphor is also used as a cough suppressant and as a
topical antipruritic, antiseptic.
It can be used as an ingredient in smokeless powder,
as a stabilizer and a moderator to improve ballistic
properties.Specifications: DAB6, DAB8, DAB10, BP98,
