Ofloxacin is an antibiotic
in a class of drugs called fluoroquinolones. It is a
broad-spectrum antibacterial agent effective against
a wide variety of gram-negative and gram-positive aerobic
organisms, It works by entering the bacterial cell and
inhibiting DNA-gyrase which is involved in the production
of DNA.
Ofloxacin is used to treat certain infections caused
by bacteria: ¢Ùchest or lower respiratory tract infection,
such as pneumonia and bronchitis caused by Haemophilus
influenzae and Streptococcus pneumoniae. ¢Úurinary infections
and prostate infections caused by E. Coli.¡¡¢Ûvenereal
disease such as gonorrhea and chlamydia, but is not
effective against syphilis.¡¡¢ÜSkin or soft tissue infections
caused by staphylococcus aureus, and streptococcus pyogenes
bacteria.
Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral
infections.
