CAS No: 68-35-9
Chemical Name: 4-amino-N-pyrimidin- 2-yl-benzenesulfonamide
Molecular formula: C10H10N4O2S
Molecular weight: 250.28
Chemical Structure:

Sulfadiazine is a sulfonamide
antibiotic. It eliminates bacteria that cause infections
by stopping the production of folic acid inside the
bacterial cell (folic acid is necessary for the production
of genetic material-DNA within the cell, without the
production of DNA the bacteria is not able to reproduce
and the spread of the infection is stopped), and is
commonly used to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs).
In combination, sulfadiazine and pyrimethamine, can
be used to treat toxoplasmosis, a disease caused by
Toxoplasma gondii.
