Indomethacin is a nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), acts by inhibiting the
synthesis of prostaglandins which are involved in pain,
inflammation and fever. By inhibiting prostaglandin
synthesis indomethacin is effective in relieving pain,
swelling, fever and other symptoms and signs of inflammation
associated with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis,
ankylosing spondylitis, and gout.
It is also used to reduce tumor-induced suppression
of the immune system and to increase the effectiveness
of anticancer drugs.
Although indomethacin will relieve symptoms it will
not alter the course of the underlying disease.
