Molecular Weight: 361.37
Chemical Structure:
levofloxacin is the optically
active L-isomer of ofloxacin. It works by inhibiting
the supercoiling activity of bacterial DNA gyrase, halting
DNA replication.
levofloxacin is in a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones,
it is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent with activity
against a range of Gram-positive, Gram-negative, atypicals
and anaerobes.
levofloxacin is used to treat bacterial infections in
many different parts of the body, such as respiratory
tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections,
various obstetric infections. It does not work for viral
infections (e.g. common cold, flu).
