CAS No: 103-90-2
Chemical Name: N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acetamide
Molecular Formula: C8H9NO2
Molecular Weight: 151.169
Chemical Structure:
Paracetamol, also known as
acetaminophen, is a widely-used pain relief (analgesic)
and fever relief (antipyretic). Derived from coal tar,
it is the active metabolite of phenacetin, but unlike
phenacetin, paracetamol has not been shown to be carcinogenic
in any way. Unlike aspirin, it is not a very effective
anti-inflammatory agent. It is well tolerated, lacks
many of the side-effects of aspirin, so it is commonly
used to relieve mild to moderate pain and fever in neuralgia,
symptomatic relief of colds and flu, treatment of headaches,
treatment of rheumatic pain and other minor aches and
pains.
