Phenylbutazone, a pyrazolone derivative, is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that has anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic activities by inhibiting synthesis of prostaglandins. it is an old but effective drug used primarily for treatment of mild to moderate pain associated with arthritis, especially in the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis.
It is no longer sold in US for human use, it is only sold for animal use, usually horses and dogs.
