Vitamin B2, commonly called
riboflavin, is one of eight water-soluble B vitamins
[including thiamine (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin
B2), riboflavin 5'- phosphate, nicotinic acid, Vitamin
B6 Group (Pyridoxine, pyridoxal, pyridoxamine), panthothenic
acid (vitamin B3 or vitamin B5), inositol, p-aminobenzoic
acid, biotin (vitamin B7), folic acid (vitamin B9),
and vitamin B12 (cobalamins)]. it cannot be stored by
the body except in insignificant amounts, and must be
replenished daily. Vitamin B2 is found mainly in meat,
fish, eggs, dairy foods, grain products and vegetables.
The signs and symptoms of vitamin B2 deficiency include
visual problems, such as cataracts and excessive sensitivity
of the eyes to light (photosensitivity). There may also
include reddening of the lips with cracking around the
corners of mouth (cheilosis), tongue inflammation (glossitis),
skin inflammation (dermatitis), conjunctivitis, scrotum
inflammation, headache, swelling (edema), dizziness,
hair loss, insomnia.
