Sodium cyclamate, a synthetic
nonnutritive low-calorie sweetener, is 30¨C50 times sweeter
than sugar, it¡¯s unpleasant aftertaste is generally
less than saccharin or acesulfame potassium. Sodium
cyclamate is often used synergistically with other artificial
sweeteners, especially saccharin. Sodium cyclamate is
resistant to heat, acid and alkali. It will not absorb
moisture even under prolonged exposure to air. It is
very soluble in water. It¡¯s aqueous solution is neutral.
Sodium cyclamate is used as a substitute for sugar in
food, beverage and confectionery.
