CAS No: 10124-56-8 / 68915-31-1
Chemical Name: metaphosphoric acid, hexasodium salt
Molecular Formula: (NaPO3)6
Molecular Weight: 611.82
Chemical Structure:
Sodium hexametaphosphate is
a hexamer of composition. It is typically a mixture
of polymeric metaphosphates, of which the hexamer is
one, and is usually the compound referred to by this
name. It is more correctly termed sodium polymetaphosphate.
Sodium hexametaphosphate is prepared by melting monosodium
orthophosphate, followed by rapid cooling. Sodium hexametaphosphate
hydrolyzes in aqueous solution, particularly under acidic
conditions, to sodium trimetaphosphate and sodium orthophosphate.
Sodium hexametaphosphate is used as a sequestrants (metal
binders), stabiliser and emulsifiers. It is also used
to retain water during processing and storage. It is
also a whitening ingredient in some whitening toothpastes.
Standards: inner standard
Packing: 25kg / bag
Storage: Keep in a tightly closed container, stored
in a cool, dry, ventilated area.
